North Shenandoah Plein Air (NSPA) was named to reflect our location—and to leave room for other plein air groups in surrounding areas to define their own regions.
We’re always looking for beautiful, paintable places to explore together. Our painting area includes:
Clarke, Frederick, Page, Shenandoah, Warren Counties and well as Winchester City
We also occasionally paint
West - in nearby areas of West Virginia (to the west and north)
East of the Blue Ridge in parts of Loudoun and Fauquier counties (such as Bluemont, Marshall, and Paris (Sky Meadows)
👉 Most locations are within about an hour of our central area.
The map, top left, gives a general idea of our region.
The inner circle shows our core painting area
Outer areas are included for special outings and variety
If you live within this region, chances are we have locations not too far from you!
We love exploring new spots—especially ones that make it easier for members across the region to join in.
Travel distances vary, so you can choose locations that are comfortable for you.
Members are encouraged to suggest new painting locations. If you’d like to propose a spot:
Visit and scout the location ahead of planning meetings
Suggest it before or during planning sessions
Be willing to help co-host that outing
👉 For everyone’s comfort, locations should include access to restroom facilities (either permanent restrooms or port-a-potties).
